Although not as
popular as Bali or Lombok, Belitung Island has some beautiful beaches. Soft
white sand, sand on this island is even whiter than sand in Bali.
The most distinct
scenery in Belitung Island is large granite rock formations that spread along
the shallow waters. The giant granite rock froze in the middle of water made
beautiful views. Some of these giant rocks formed a short tunnel so that the
underlying becomes attractive playground.
Belitung also
surrounded by more than 100 small islands that are mostly decorated with white
sand and granite but only a few islands are inhabited. One of the islands is
Galangal Island, where you can find ancient antique home and 19th century
lighthouse that was built by the Dutch. Burung Island, Babai Island, Pengadaran
Island, Lutung Island, Monkey Island, and Jenang Island are among some of small
islands which offer very beautiful scenery.
In addition to
stunning beaches, Belitung also has inherited pride from the past. In Tanjungpandan,
Belitung Museum has a collection of the complete history of the island. In the
wake of 1963, the museum was initiated by a Belgian geologist, Dr. Oesberger,
who was then working in Belitung’s mining industry.
LOCATION
Belitung located in
east coast of Sumatra, flanked by the Gaspar Strait and Karimata Strait. There
are views of uniquely decorated pearly white sand beaches, clear water that is
fresh, and sturdy granite rock formations on the edge of shallow water. It was
all just a part of the best views.
HOW TO GET THERE
From Jakarta, the
easiest way to get to Belitung is by plane. There are several daily flights
from Sriwijaya Air and Batavia Air that depart from Soekarno Hatta Airport
directly to HAS Hanandjoeddin in Tanjungpandan, Belitung. Flight will take
approximately 45 minutes.
You can also use the
sea route by passenger ships of PELNI or Tristar ferry from Tanjung Priok port,
Jakarta. Keep in mind that the ship only serves travel to Belitung once every 2
weeks. The journey will take about 24 hours.
ATTRACTION
Tanjung Tinggi Beach
This is the most charming
and popular beach in Belitung. Locate about 30 km from city center of
Tanjungpandan, Tanjung Tinggi has magnificent panorama with white sand and
granite boulders like other beaches in Belitung.
Various water sports
are available at this beach, some frequently activities among tourists are
swim, sunbathe, snorkel, fishing, playing jet ski and surfing with canoe. Of
course, public facilities and accommodations will be easily found in this
beautiful coastal area, from restaurants to hotels and resorts.
Tanjung Pendam Beach
Perhaps this is most
popular beach in center of Belitung. It’s located in Tanjungpandan make Tanjung
Pendam became a favorite tourist spot for those who want to relax and enjoy the
sunset on beach.
In addition to
enjoying the atmosphere of beach with calm waves, visitors can also enjoy the
atmosphere of amusement parks surround it. Hang out and relax around beach is
exciting things.
On this beach,
visitors can also see sights of Kalimua Island in middle of Tanjung Pendam. The
island is believed by Chinese citizens as a place to dispose of bad luck.
Dusk is the best
moment to enjoy beauty of Tanjung Pendam. While sitting at beach pavilion, visitors

Tanjung Kelayang Beach
This beautiful beach
is located about 27 km north of Tanjung Pandan. Periodically, hundreds of yachts
from various countries will stop in Belitung to participated in the event of Wakatobi
- Belitong Sail.
Still offers beauty of
granite boulders scattered in the sea, especially with presence of Garuda stone,
its Tanjung Kelayang’s unique iconic. This very large rock is in the middle of sea
formed like a bird's head.
Lengkuas Island
One typical of this
island is a very old lighthouse built in 1882 by Dutch that still use until now.
Old lighthouse iconic on Lengkuas island offers the beauty of Belitung from
above and that’s amazing travel experience. To visit the lighthouse, you need
to cross by boat to Lengkuas Island for approximately 45 minutes.
With an area of less than 1 hectare,
this tourist attraction presents a fascinating sea panoramic. Just climb the
stairs as high as 50 meters, you can enjoy a spectacular view on Lengkuas island.
If you are too tired to get on top of lighthouse, do not worry because every
floor has a window facing different directions. This is why Lengkuas Island has
attraction that always invites tourists to enjoy its charm.
White Sandbar
If you want to cross
over to Lengkuas Island, then you will find white sandbar (small land sticking
out in the sea). What's special about this white sandbar? This sandbar is
habitat of big starfish. You should come here before afternoon because the
white sandbar will go down in sea tide in the afternoon.
If you stop by in this
small island and take a picture at it, you will be like standing on the sea.
Memperak Island
This is beauty of tourist
attractions in Belitung that unknown by many tourists, but is known for its
alluring charm. Memperak Island located in East Belitung, presenting turquoise and
clean sea water. Underwater life of this island is one thing you should not
miss. This is why Memperak Island is one of fascinating snorkel Belitung
Islands.
The best snorkeling spot
can be found in the north, east, and west side of island. That's the most
exciting snorkel spot to enjoy beauty of coral reefs and a variety of living
creatures underwater. And do not forget, use footwear when snorkel as there are
sharp sea urchins.
