Origin name of
Malioboro has two versions. First, the name is taken from Sanskrit, meaning “bouquet”.
This is because along the way filled with flowers bouquet every time Yogyakarta
palace held a traditional ceremony. The second version said that the name is
taken from an English nobleman, Marlborough, who lives in Yogyakarta between
the years 1881-1916.
Dutch colonial built
Malioboro in 19th century as center of government activity and economy.

forest with a lot of banyan trees. From here Beringhardjo was obtained.
'Bering' which means “banyan tree” and 'Hardjo' mean “prosperity”. Beringhardjo
market becomes center of economic activity in Yogyakarta at that time.
Nearby attractions
after Beringharjo market is Fort Vandenberg. The fort is located at the
intersection of southern end of Malioboro. This historic fort built by the
Dutch government as the government center and military defense.
Fort Vredeburg is
museum as well as tourist attractions are located at Jalan Malioboro. Just like
a museum, there are collections of various wars relics. In addition, there is a
screening room and a diorama depicting Indonesian state battle during colonial
period.
This fort was
originally built under the orders of “Sultan Hamengkubuwono I”. The original building
